Bridgestone Keeping the XJ220 Alive

Any excuse to run a picture of the XJ220…

Are you running a Jaguar XJ220, but are worried about where the next set of tyres will come from? Fear no more as, thanks to a partnership with Don Law XJ220, Bridgestone is developing a new generation of tyres for the legendary supercar.

The original tyres went out of production some years ago, but a chance meeting saw Don Law open discussions with Bridgestone on the possibility of producing new tyres to the original demanding specification. A team was soon put together, including the original chief development engineer and test driver, and famed pre-production XJ220 chassis number 004 was acquired.

“It’s very important to keep such iconic vehicles running today and supporting people like Don Law and his team of expert technicians,” commented Christophe de Valroger, vice president consumer OE at Bridgestone Europe. “Technology has moved on significantly in the last 25 years and we believe we will be able to produce a tyre that will keep the smile on the face of the enthusiast drivers of the XJ220.”

The project is progressing well, with the new rubber expected for the big cat’s 25th birthday celebrations in 2017.
