DS Performance Launches with New DS 3

Hot hatch performance with luxury comfort and refinement? Here’s hoping…

Following last week’s reveal of the new DS 3 range, the team had a small surprise for guests in the form of a DS 3 Performance model.

Confirmed as coming to the UK, the DS 3 Performance will be powered by a 1.6-litre turbocharged engine lifted from the Peugeot 208 GTi, putting out an identical 205bhp. To keep that under control, the DS will come fitted with a limited slip differential.

Performance figures have been kept away from us, but expect a 0-62mph time of a little under seven seconds, while top speed should be north of 140mph.

All that performance will be going through a six-speed manual gearbox, while roadholding will be improved thanks to a lower and wider stance. Cosmetic additions include flared wheel arches, a rear spoiler and impressive looking seats.

However, don’t expect a track-focussed hot hatch., DS is keen to retain the comfort that the brand would like to be known for. That means plenty of plush trim, suspension with enough give to save your fillings, and technology intended to make life easier rather than faster.

That said, it’s expected that further Performance models will follow, some considerably hotter than this.
